One more window lit,
One more sleepless sign.
Could be – they just sit,
Could be – they drink wine,
Or – some two hold hands
And cannot let go.
In each house, my friend,
Such a light will glow.

Not from lamps or flames
brightness would arise:
But from sleepless eyes!

Window in the night –
Cry of pain and glee!
Light all candles bright,
Or – light only three…
Nothing I can do
Puts my mind at peace,
And my home now too
Has a light like this.

Pray then, for the home
sleepless in the night,
For the window light!
